Slayers is one of my favorite anime and has been for years, and in it Lina is my favorite character. Though I didn’t make it at the time, this was the costume that convinced me to start attending cons when I was in high school. The original plan was to wear it to either Otakon or PortCon in 2002, but because both were so far away and my friends, mom, and I couldn’t get organized in time all I ever did was buy the fabric. I want to make this as a realistic version of what Lina might look like in real life, instead of in keeping with the cartoony aspect that is often apparent in anime cosplay. For that reason the fabric I chose is a looser weave than most cotton-based materials that I could have chosen. I’m also going to dye my hair red (yay L’Oreal Color Pulse!) instead of styling a wig all fancy and gravity-defying. In 2009 my friends and I plan on having a small group of Slayers characters, including E-Bishi as Gourry and Fearix as Zel. I’m really excited to finally make and present this costume. DRAGON SLAVE!
