As with Songstress, I was kind of disappointed with how this costume first turned out. It was great, I know, but it could have been so much better! I just ran out of time. When I first made it I was really having trouble balancing work and costuming. My mom had to finish my skirt for me and draw the design on the obi all because she wanted me to get my sleep before my drive to Hartford, but I was still up until 1AM finishing other parts of the costume. If I'd just not gone to the con on Friday I could have finished it myself, but I'd already committed to helping out with the cosplay musical, so that wasn't an option. I guess, really, it's not the costume I was disappointed with so much as myself. Since then I’ve resolved to be a lot better organized when making my costumes, and this summer I’ll get my chance to try.

In 2007 this costume was chosen from the handful I submitted for me to wear at the Anime Boston Cosplay Chess. I didn’t have to re-work it, since I wasn’t competing with it, but when I told my mom how I was not 100% happy with how it came out she insisted on fixing the shirt part for me. I also finally took the time to paint the flowers on the skirt, and I’m really pleased with how that came out. Actually, I’m thrilled with how all of this costume came out now, even though I got a LOT of help from my mom. I don’t mind so much, though, since I’m not going to use it in competitions anymore. The staff, which was made by my dad, was a last minute add-on for the Chessmatch, and I’m so happy to have it. It really adds a lot to the costume. Really, I am so very happy with how this costume ultimately came out, so expect to see more of it at cons in the future.
